Gencon Day 1

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Actually, it should be pregencon, but what the heck.

The day began with needing to get Theo's registration renewed, since she had forgotten to do it in June. It is now August.
Of course, all but one of the DMV's in Lansing are doing the open late-stay open later thing so we have to drive across town to the one that opens at 9, along with half of the rest of the city. An /hour/ later, at least, we have a go, and off we travel. No construction, or very little, and save for a mixup in mapquest exit directions, we locate Embassy Suites and checkin successfully.

I squee a little at the roomkeys, which have a set of polyhedron dice pictured on them! (More on this later.)

We hustle over to the Con, picking up the swag bag, my badge, and some VIG loot. The lounge was slightly hectic this day. We run out of time, and have to traipse over to the Stink with everything still in hand. Meh.

The Stink, however, was a blast. This year Theo is feeling more comfortable, beginning to recognize some forumites, and playing the passport game. Last year as a +1 she was unable to do so, but AS a former +1 she was a highly sought commodity, so that was cool.

I wish I'd had more time to do the Gotcha! game--but I was 'Gotcha!'d almost right away. Within about ten minutes.

Had an awesome time BS'ing with folks, examining the swag, which was excellent, and trying out the dicehole game. Fun!

Afterward was Bubba Ho-Teps Rolemaster game. The Hyatt rooms are not conducive to a lot of talking and noise, and I felt sorry for the players at the far end, though BHT himself explained the rules really well, and the whole thing went swimmingly well.

Staggered back to Embassy, and fell into bed after talking to Eric for awhile. Okay, a long while. 2am, that's about right, isn't it? After all, I can sleep until 9!

Stuff

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

It's almost Gencon! Of course, all sorts of last-minute things pop up that restrict my available spending, so I am a little down about this. My tuition overage got delayed a month. My kids instrument bills for school came a month early. My plates came due.

But hey, I can get websites of stuff I want when I'm there, and my schedule is almost all gaming anyway, so not all that much time to gawk at things I Want.

Who'm I kidding. I was looking forward to getting stuff.

Meh.

And my will call stuff was shipped to me. Meh. Now I have to remember it.

At least it isn't lost.

Argh

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I happily go to buy something and my card is denied. Say what? I just had my check deposited, even less the insurance payment, that should leave a nice hefty $384.

Nope. It has $48.

In fact, it was -$376 before the check.

Now, sometimes I forget something, but nearly $400 worth? Wha-huh?

I go into online banking, and what on earth is this $202.95 charge? Consumers Energy. I don't pay CE.
Ah ha. In June, I paid my mother's energy bill for her. She asked, I budgeted, no biggie. When in July, her payment was returned, the folks at CE called her, and she said to use 'the last card used' which was mine.

So needless to say, she didn't tell me. I have $268 worth of NSF fees.

Monday I'm going to go in and get the card changed, and just suffer, since Mom is 71, forgets anything I tell her these days, and getting angry is pointless. It isn't the banks fault. I just wish I'd KNOWN so that I could have avoided the overdraft fees. Bah.

And on a second note, even though all my Gencon tickets and such were set to Will Call, Friday they came in the mail. God, I hope I don't lose them.

Bad Day

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I'm scheduled out of work at 5am. At 5:20 I call Justin, and he groggily mutters that he slept through his alarm, but was on his way.
At 6:06 I leave work.
At 6:30 Jan tells me her head itches, so I run a comb through her hair to tell her she's imagining things, just because her friend Terri has lice and...she isn't imagining things. I keep both girls home from school. I tell them, I am tired, I worked all night, 5 hours won't make a difference, we can all sleep in.
However, that is not to be because Mom forgot to pay the water bill, so she wakes me up at 10 to tell me the water is shut off. ... ... ...
I get up, we go in, pay, they tell us it will be back on at 2pm or so. So we stop by the drugstore and get alll the lice-killing crap, which we can't use until later. But we pull all the sheets off the beds, all the pillow cases, spray the couch, all that stuff. I check my head, and Sarah's and thankfully come up with nothing. Just Jan. I am so glad we have wooden floors.
My Mom starts yelling at my Dad since he didn't remind her about the water bill and a neighbor calls the police. Now, she fell down yesterday when walking Diana, our Black Lab, and so she has a black eye, and doesn't sound too convincing when she tells the police 'nothing is wrong'. *sigh*

Anyway, after that the day goes better. Water comes on, we wash everything, Jan shampoos, comb out the dead critters, I CAN FINALLY SLEEP.

And it worked, thank heavens, checking her in the evening and every morning since has turned up nada. We'll retreat in 7 days but it looks like it was just a recent brush. Needless to say, I've asked her to stay away from Terri for awhile. Like. AWHILE.

Resume

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

So I'm sitting here realizing I need to update my resume now that I have, at 41, finally gotten my Bachelor's Degree and danged if I even know where to begin, which is why I am sitting here whining about it instead of doing it.

Gencon

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I usually don't blather on and on and on online, okay, I never have, in fact my old account here, Braewe, is lost in the ether since apparently I used an old email and have no effing clue what it's password may be.

But! I am ecstatic to have gotten into every single last 'first choice' event in my gencon list and when I tried bouncing off the walls at work about this glorious and amazing circumstance, all I got were blank looks. Bleh!

Okay, so I'll still get blank looks here, but I can bounce off walls anyway.

YAY! Rar. Is it August yet?
